HER
I love this song. Kinda my favourite these days. This is about that person - perhaps more than one/once - who came into my life for a much briefer time and with much less entanglement than I hoped for. So much so that she remains in my memory years later, albeit often with no or a forgotten name. For me, this is not a tale of one person but a compilation of parts provided by different people over the years.

I first met her long ago
C F
On a whim, I’d said hello
Am Dm
We’d talk. Shared a secret once or twice
G Em
It was nice, so very nice
C F C G7
Each time we met, she’d smile and say
“Nice to see you again, today”
When she walked away, my mind
Hung onto her waiting for next time
One day, I don’t know why
She was gone. A broken tie
But I have not let her go
Does she remember? I don’t know
C
Am Dm
There’s beautiful, magnificent,
G Em
Gorgeous, flawless, heaven sent.
C Am
But all these words fall short of best
F G
When she’s perfect, nothing less
C F C G7
I had never let her know
That she had drilled so deep into my soul
I often wondered what she would do
If I ever asked, “Would you like to… ?“
Desire saturates my heart
I cling to dreams I can’t discard
I imagine if I’d been much bolder
There are so many things I would have told her
Oh, the girl I can’t forget
Is the girl I would never get
In my dreams, we still love so well
Would it have been so? I can’t tell.
